Shropshire Harmony Quire

The Village Philharmonic

"The Village Philharmonic" by Stanhope Forbes, Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery

We are an open access choir. Come along and see if it suits you.

Please email shropshireharmonyquire@gmail.com beforehand for more information and to let us know you would like to come. We can then give you access to the music and contact you if we have to cancel due to tempest, flood, pestilence, etc. We do have to ask that those under the age of 18 and vulnerable adults are accompanied by a responsible adult.

The first meeting to try us out is free. Subscription for the year is £70. Or you can pay £10 per meeting on a 'drop in' basis.

Singers have written music but sound files of each vocal part are available online for a couple of weeks beforehand. Some learn from the scores, some learn mainly from the sound files alongside the score and use that as a reminder on the day - and for pencilling in any instructions from our director. There will be an instrument playing your part.

Instruments play one of the vocal parts and often a few bars of instrumental introduction - the 'symphony'. The village band of the period was mainly wind and bowed strings but the revived west gallery tradition has welcomed some anachronisms.

Where. Lydbury North village hall, SY7 8AU. See the map and directions on the hall web site (scroll down). The hall has full disabled access facilities.

When. The fourth Sunday of every month except July, August and December. We normally meet from 2.00 to 5.00 with a break for tea and cake, but an hour earlier in November and January.

The remaining dates for 2025 are: September 28, October 26 and November 23.
